Maternal Child Health Service

Maternal Child Health Service Update: 20 October 2021 In line with current guidelines, Hepburn Shire Maternal Child Health Service is now able to offer face to face consultations to all clients. We continue to follow the Chief Health Officer and Commonwealth advice and ask that:
- Only people from the same household and the child/baby being assessed be brought to the consultation
- Adult family members wear a surgical mask during the consultation
- Families only attend their appointment with the MCH nurse if everyone in the household is well, has not been in close contact with positive coronavirus case, has not been exposed to a Tier 1 or 2 exposure site, and is not waiting a test result and/or do not have a fever or cough.
Central Highland Rural Health have introduced a policy that all clients attending appointments within our facilities undergo a temperature check upon arrival. If your temperature or your child’s temperature is above 37.5 you will need to go home and the MCH nurse will contact you to offer you another appointment.
Please remember to bring the Green Book, two bunny rugs, a clean nappy and a nappy sac with you to your appointment.
Our team would like to give a huge thank you to all our wonderful families for being so understanding in the unusual times we find ourselves in.
To make an appointment or reschedule contact our booking line on 5321 6500.

Enhance Maternal and Child Health Service

The Enhanced Maternal Child Health (EMCH) program is part of Victoria’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Service and is offered to selected families as an extension of the Universal Maternal and Child Health (UMCH) program. The EMCH program offers flexible actions and interventions to families who would benefit from targeted support.

Immunisations

The Victorian immunisation schedule outlines the vaccines that are routinely provided free of charge to all Victorian children under the National Immunisation Program and the Victorian funded program. It also outlines the age at which each vaccination should be given. New vaccines against serious infections continue to be developed and the schedule might be updated in the future. Book an appointment with your family medical practitioner to have your child immunised.

Breast Feeding Support

Breast feeding support call 53216550 to speak with a Breast Feeding specialist and/or make an appointment.

Sleep and Settling Service

Sleep and settling concerns are common issues affecting families with children aged from birth to school age. We support families by offering a family-centred approach when sleep is highlighted as a concern by a parent or caregiver. Something that is a concern for one family may not be an issue for another. We offer a flexible and responsive service, to meet the needs of families and service providers. If you would like to speak to a nurse about a sleeping issue, call 5321 6550.

Smalltalk

Supported Playgroups are a free program for families across Victoria with children from birth to school age. A qualified facilitator leads these fun sessions where parents develop their skills and confidence to support their child’s wellbeing and development. Smalltalk is designed as part of a ten-week playgroup program for parents and children aged birth to 5 years. They aim to achieve improved learning, development and well-being outcomes for children in their early years by improving parent-child interactions in stimulating environments.  For more information or to enroll in Smalltalk, call 5321 6550.
