In February, we farewelled one of our longest-serving volunteers, Rita, who is retiring after over twenty years of dedicated service at Daylesford Aged Care. She has brought warmth, kindness, and joy to residents and staff alike, and while we are sad to see her go, we are deeply grateful for her years of service.
Rita began her journey with us when she first moved to Daylesford, initially seeking a job. Volunteering became more than just a pastime—it became a passion. Over the years, she has worn many hats: bingo caller, bus trip assistant, Christmas helper, and most importantly, a compassionate friend to residents and someone who was there to listen.
She liked that she got to meet people from all walks of life - people who ran businesses, farmers and others. She said it was “nice to hear their stories.” Rita’s presence meant so much to everyone. Residents appreciated her kindness.
Resident Joan Bailey fondly recalls, “She was always kind and helpful. And she was a great bingo caller—we’ll miss her!” Staff at Daylesford Aged Care, too, valued her contributions, knowing that residents were in safe, caring hands when Rita was around.
To honour her dedication, staff and residents gathered for a farewell celebration at the Daylesford Bowling Club in February, sharing fish and chips with a scenic view. Ever thoughtful, Rita made sure to visit a resident who was too unwell to attend. Classic Rita.
Her generosity has left a lasting impact, and we thank her from the bottom of our hearts.
